Well, that was slightly less destructive than the average catfight during high school. But then, I went to an all girls school, so I think we were a bit different that most.

It's getting very cold around here. Have I mentioned that I find that unnatural? It's terribly rude of this state, insisting on having seasons and all that. How do you people stand it?

I've been thinking about Thanksgiving. I'm still undecided on whether I should go home for the holiday or stay here and force feed all of you my candied yams and stuffed turkey. Going home means Dad but it also means I don't have to cook. Very difficult decisions.

Food. Find something for me to laser into itty bitty pieces, and I'd be eternally grateful. And no longer starving.

It'll keep me from lasering other things, too.

Right. I'm tempted to try to fake sukiyaki. Plenty of cutting to small bits there. Come help me hunt down ingredients.

As long as miscellaneous havok can be wreaked upon the hapless foodstuff, you're on!

[identity profile] x-crowdofone.livejournal.com 2003-11-13 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you stand all the same boring sunny warm weather all the time?

And if you want a break from the Thanksgiving cooking, I grill a pretty good turkey and I have my grandma's gravy recipe, which, little known fact, was carried down from the mount as kind of an appendix to the ten commandments. :)

[identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com 2003-11-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Done. You are officially in charge of gravy (and I want a copy of the recipe.)

[identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, you know, I think I remember that...

Exodus 20.17

Moses answered the people, "Be not afraid; for God has come only in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may be ever with you, so that you do not go astray, and so that you may have really great gravy."

Or maybe that was a Python skit.

[identity profile] x-crowdofone.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Once they got the fire going to melt down the golden calf, they might as well use it to cook some food, and they'd need gravy then. God provides. I'm sure it's a really good manna sauce too.

[identity profile] x-cypher.livejournal.com 2003-11-13 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you want to, you definitely have my vote for staying here and cooking. But I wouldn't want you to feel obligated, because then I'd feel guilty. :) So the bottom line is do whatever would most make you happy, but know that there is a very vocal fan of your cooking over in the corner here. ;-)

[identity profile] x-rahne.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know that much about Thanksgiving. Your cooking's always very good, but I hadn't realized you were getting tired of it -- you always seemed to start because you wanted to. I'm sorry.

But it's not cold. ;)

[identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
It most certainly is cold. I'm dreading the snow, you know. Totally unnatural stuff, that.

It's not that I don't enjoy cooking. It's just that Thanksgiving is such a huge ordeal, menu-wise. It requires a week of preparation and even then I'll be in the kitchen all day.

As a rule, chefs hate holidays. We always have to work.

However, it won't be so bad if...wait, wait. I'm having an idea. A wonderful idea. A terrible, wonderful idea.

Rahne, darling, what can I bake you? You've just given a glorious idea and you deserve a reward!

[identity profile] x-rahne.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm completely confused now.

Since it seems you'll be very busy for a while, though, could I ask you to teach me some things (when you've got time, I mean) instead? I'd like to learn more, but couldn't schedule for the cooking class.

[identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, it would be my pleasure.

I'm headed downstairs now, actually. I was going to start menuing for Thanksgiving and Alison is giving me a "feed me" look again.

Anoo, Amerika no Seinkusugiibingu wa, nan desu ka?

Sorry. I meant, what is American Thanksgiving? What event does it commemorate? Are there any strange rituals I should know about?

Me too.

[identity profile] x-tarot.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I am, as the people on television say, right there with you.

To be serious, I think I understand the idea - you are celebrating having food and a warm place to sleep, yes?

[identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Marie-Ange is pretty much correct. It's a harvest festival remembering the pioneers and their struggles to survive the upcoming winter. Rituals varry from family to family, but pretty much everywhere meat is eaten we have turkey, plus other traditional foods (stuffing, cranberry sauce, cornbread, pumpkin pie, etc.)

I'm going to be claiming the rec-room tv with 'Yana and Artie to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade all morning, if either of you want to join us.

[identity profile] x-sanfuaiyaa.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I've heard about that parade. It's the really big one with lots of balloons, right?

[identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, that's the one. I keep wanting to go in person, but haven't had the chance.

[identity profile] x-sanfuaiyaa.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was in New York City. Why can't we just up and go?

[identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It is, and we could. I just... I don't know. This year hasn't really seemed like the year to go.

[identity profile] x-havok.livejournal.com 2003-11-15 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I asked my brother about the cold, and he gave some weird answer about skin and warmth...didn't get it.

And if I promise to help you cook, will you stay? Wait nevermind, I forgot my less to none cooking skills. If I make it worth your wild, will you stay?

[identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com 2003-11-15 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
weird answer about skin and warmth Have I mentioned how much I like the way your brother thinks?

Funny you should mention helping cook...
