So...

I thought it was high time that explanations be given.

Only trouble is, I don't know what to tell you. Is what you heard true? That depends on what you heard. Yes, I kidnapped Forge. Yes, I nearly killed Remy. Yes, I destroyed the minds of two local children. Yes, I killed Alison's father. No, I'm not staff nor student nor any other extracurricular activity anymore and you're absolutely allowed to not want to be anywhere near me.

Any more questions?

I don't know if they told you...

But I found those children you violated.

Their minds are ... gone. As scrambled as that omlette you're making for Forge. They will _never_ lead anything like a normal life.

All their dreams, all their hopes, their very essences, are gone forever.

I see them when I can. Just to be there, to soothe their tortured minds, to try to mitigate your crimes. What will you do for them now?

Really *not* helping Manuel...

I don't know what I can do, Manuel. If you do, please tell me because I would do anything to help.

I should have guessed.

Do you have nothing you can offer, nothing you can give, for those whose lives you snuffed out?

Nothing at all?

Since when are you a humanitarian, Manuel? Do those kids owe you money or something? Lorna's irrational guilt aside - she was used as a tool. I spoke with Malice, lived with her, worked alongside her for two weeks. That wasn't Lorna. Not the same thoughts, not the same feelings, not the same motivations, not the same person. Just the same body.

If I take a club and beat you with it, do you blame the club? No, you blame the person wielding it. Don't channel your blame and faux self-righteousness at Lorna. Direct it at the people responsible.

Why should he?

Manuel is disgusting, Lorna. You know this. At this time, he has no place to say these things. It is not appropiate now. I do not believe it will ever be - and even if it -would- be appropiate, it will never be appropiate coming from him.

Because he has every right to ask. He's right about the state of the children and the fact that some kind of reparation is needed.

I'm not putting much value on the appropriate right now.

He has the right to ask as much as I have the right to go punch him in the nose. The harm is approximatly equal.

No, he's got as much right to ask as the lives of Josh and Karen were worth.

People who do not mind-rape others without remorse get to ask. Not Manuel.

No, Lorna. This is a simple case of right and wrong - I'm right, he's wrong. You aren't to blame, and if you want to help the people Malice hurt, then you can choose to do so. But it's because you're a good person and you feel bad for what happened to them, don't let it be out of guilt that you haven't earned.

Thank you Forge

It was a simple question.

And I've always cared deeply about children, for those who are themselves helpless.

Everyone is helpless in some way, Manuel. Everyone is vulnerable. I'm not saying you're wrong to feel sorry for those kids - I'm saying you're wrong to hold Lorna in any way responsible.

What can I give? My apologies will be useless. My explanation is even more worthless. Should I go to their parents?

I'm really asking. What would you have me do for them?

Manuel?

I'm trying to respect the fact that you did find those kids and given your mutation, you're going to feel what happened to them on a deeper level than most of us.

But if you can't exercise the infinitesimal amount of common sense it would take to absorb the information you've been given here and take that into account when you react, you are going to be banned from the journals until you convince me that you can think before you type.

He can talk but not about you this way.

Malice did that to those kids, Not. You.

I've considered it.

From: [identity profile] x-empath.livejournal.com
I've considered it deeply. My question still stands. It doesn't matter much who was in control or who did what. It _happened_ with her body, her power, and that makes her to some degree liable.

I wanted to know what she planned to do to make amends, or if this was to be swept under the rug and made to disappear.

We can dicker and argue about degrees of culpability, about her nature and Stockholm Syndrome or any one of a hundred other things. It is tangential to the realities of two children who have had their lives _destroyed_.

Like some of the things you've done?

I will caution you to recall that you have violated minds, and have not yet made up for it.

Your displaced guilt is neither welcome, nor appropiate.

That's somewhat akin to blaming a rape victim for the crime, Manuel. Or to use a more direct comparison - if you influence someone with your powers to such a state of depression that they walk off a bridge, who is to blame: you or them?

Yes, perhaps Lorna DOES possess the ability to do horrible things with her powers. There's precious few of us who can say we're utterly harmless. Maybe, what, Doug and Artie? But the difference between Lorna and Malice is that Lorna would never and to my knowledge HAS never willingly done those things.

You want your justice and retribution? Fine. Malice is dead. Defunct, deprogrammed, erased, whatever. Yes, there are those left damaged by what she did; those children, Remy, Miss Blaire -- but reparations do not need to come from Lorna.
