I called my mother today. It was her birthday and it's tradition, even when I was at summer camp I would always call her. My dad answered. He hung up when he heard it was me. Didn't even say good-bye.

I called back when I knew he wouldn't be there which is what I should have in the first place. I could have saved myself a lot of pain that way.

My mother is fine. She wants to come visit. I told her I didn't think it would be a good idea.

Happy Birthday, Mom.

Maybe if your mom and dad come to visit they'll see that everything's the same here. Or kind of the same. Close to the same. You know what I mean.

I'm sorry your dad was like that. He'll come around eventually.

Mom and Dad have been here. They came to check it out when I first enrolled. I just don't think now is a good time.

He's not my real dad.
